Who we are

This website is BikeCityFAQ, operated at www.faq.bike. It is a project by the a.bike team — a European bicycle theft prevention advocacy platform. We provide free, verified cycling FAQs for urban cyclists across Europe.

For any privacy-related queries, contact us at info@faq.bike.

What data we collect

BikeCityFAQ is a static website. We do not operate any backend servers, databases, or user accounts. We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal information unless you contact us directly by email.

If you contact us at info@faq.bike, we will receive and store your email address and message content solely for the purpose of responding to your enquiry. We do not share this information with third parties.

Hosting and server logs (Netlify)

This website is hosted on Netlify (Netlify, Inc., 512 2nd Street, Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). As part of normal static hosting operations, Netlify may collect standard anonymous server log data, which may include:

  • Your IP address (typically anonymised or aggregated)
  • Browser type and version (user agent string)
  • The page URL requested
  • Referrer URL (the page you came from)
  • Date and time of the request
  • HTTP response code

This data is collected automatically by Netlify for security, server performance, and basic analytics purposes. It is standard practice for web hosting providers and is fully compliant with GDPR under the legitimate interests basis (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), as this type of logging is necessary for maintaining a secure and functioning website.

Netlify's privacy policy is available at netlify.com/privacy.

Cookies

By default, Netlify static hosting does not set any tracking cookies on your device. No advertising cookies, marketing pixels, or third-party tracking scripts are loaded by faq.bike.

The only data stored locally on your device by faq.bike is:

  • Theme preference (light/dark mode): stored in your browser's localStorage as a simple key–value pair (bcfaq-theme). This is not a cookie — it remains on your device and is never transmitted to any server. It is used solely to remember your display preference across visits. You can clear it at any time via your browser settings.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking service. We do not display advertising.

Fonts

This site loads fonts (Cabinet Grotesk and Satoshi) from Fontshare (fontshare.com), operated by Indian Type Foundry. When your browser loads a font from their CDN, your IP address and browser information are transmitted to their servers. Fontshare is a free, privacy-respecting font service. Their privacy policy is at fontshare.com/privacy.

External links

Our FAQ answers include links to external websites (official city councils, cycling organisations, police services). These external sites have their own privacy policies, which we do not control. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any external site you visit.

Your rights under GDPR

If you are based in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the GDPR (or UK GDPR) in relation to any personal data we hold about you:

  • Right of access — you can ask us what data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your data
  • Right to restriction — you can ask us to restrict processing
  • Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Right to data portability — you can ask for data in a machine-readable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@faq.bike. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. In Belgium, this is the Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit (GBA). In the UK, it is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date at the top. Continued use of faq.bike following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
